New Comoonity with Viki Čerček

Viki Čerček began her movement journey in 1997 with hip-hop dance and choreography. In 2008 she stepped into the role of an instructor and began working internationally. Viki taught, choreographed, and judged events in over 30 countries throughout Europe, Asia, and USA. In 2015, she began making dance theatre, and has performed work at Sadler’s Wells, The Place, RichMix, and Redbridge Drama Centre. She also created for the National Art Festival ITALICA in Spain, The Freaky Art Show in France, and Dancecite in Belgium. Her private coaching led to the creation of New Comoonity: a space dedicated to intuitive creative expression. She holds a Breathwork Teacher qualification and is currently studying Dance Movement Psychotherapy while continuing to make dance theatre work.

Viki leads April’s workshop on Wednesday 6th April, 6-7:30pm

What first inspired you to start dancing

Watching music videos as a child in the 90s.

What unique approach will you bring to the Spaces of the Invisible workshop?

I like to think of the experience of movement with self and others as ritual - creating the whole experience in everything.

What do you value about the CDL community?

The inclusivity: that it makes creative and intuitive physical expression available for all ages.

What would you say to someone who might feel nervous about trying dance improvisation for the first time?

I would tell them that the body cannot lie, and if they are willing to move from an honest place, there is nothing to lose and everything to gain.

What does dance mean to you, what has it taught you or helped you work through?

Dance has taught me that it is a holds the same principles as life does: form and pattern. It has given me a channel for emotional expression, transpersonal experiences and a deeper connection with others.

Why do you think dance, art and creativity in general are important in society?

In a society that is increasingly trying to limit our ability to be connected and embodied, practices that enhance our sense of aliveness are more needed than ever.

Anything else to add, what are you working on at the moment?

I guide private online group coaching containers for creative and therapeutic movement practices, as well as make dance theatre and offer in-space facilitation.
