Creative Dance London Presents: Shiatsu Through Dance

‘Shiatsu Through Dance’ you'll experience the 5 Elements within Chinese Medicine, allowing you to be present and feel what your body needs.

Shiatsu originated in Japan from traditional Chinese medicine, with influences from more recent Western therapies. Although shiatsu means ‘finger pressure’ in Japanese, in practice a practitioner uses touch, comfortable pressure and manipulative techniques to adjust the body’s physical structure and balance its energy flow. It is a deeply relaxing experience and regular treatments can alleviate stress and illness and maintain health and well-being.

You'll leave with:

  • New tools to take into our daily lives

  • Feeling connected to your body in new ways

  • Feeling deeply relaxed

In this workshop, Cat will guide you through the Chinese 5 Elements Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water; with sounds/music, poetry and allowing time and space for you to explore an embodied practice. Tuning into each of the flavours and qualities of the Elements, will enable a rich space for you to simple be. A movement medicine that will leave you feeling nourished, calm and wholesome.

About Cat Westwood

“My love of shiatsu developed over 15 years ago through my professional experience within body practices, a seed was planted after watching a colleague's mum doing Qi Gong in her garden and asking what she was up to!

I initially trained in Dance Theatre at Laban Conservatoire where I began an international career as a contemporary movement artist. Whilst training to be a dancer, strong discipline is needed for the amount of physical and emotional demand, and, I became increasingly aware of the intangible relationships between body, mind, and spiritual wellbeing. From there, my interests in dance grew to somatic, holistic movement, including training at Body Weather Laboratory (a Japanese contemporary dance form that utilises environment and nature) with Oguri and Steinberg in Los Angeles, USA. I realised that my curiosity in this movement had sparked a subconscious response to working within therapy and body practices.

I work as a shiatsu practitioner and teacher across the UK as well as a Meridian Yoga teacher and Yoga teacher trainer. Also still continue to dance, perform and find the joys of movement in my everyday.”

We will send you a zoom link in an email 2 hours prior to the class. If you need support we will try our best to help you get online and dancing. You can reach us at our email address; [email protected]

Creative Dance London Presents: Movement Waves

Tap into intuitive movement through stimuli; ideas, sounds, words, images and gestures...

Led by Dance Artist Vivian Triantafyllopoulou, Movement Waves is an improvisation based movement workshop including some set tasks. By following instructions we move with different qualities, speeds and energy. Taking inspiration from the environment we are in and the group, and strength from the breathing and internal energy of the body, we dance and explore our creativity focusing on the ‘here and now.’

Building on our revitalization, our senses and their contact with our environment, this movement workshop aims to free us from psychosomatic limitations and a give a chance for creative expression. An open space of exploration where, through instructions, everyone is free to follow their own pathway.

Movement waves is for any ability and age, it can take place outdoors, in a studio or online and it is accompanied by music but also moments of silence.
